The 2nd International week at P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia
May 2019 P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia spent in a spring mood as the 2nd international week was organized between 20 and 23 May.
Foreign guests from Lithuania, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Portugal and Poland higher education institutions and businesses were admitted to the event. The main task of the week was to promote mutual exchange of experience, to establish new partnerships, to participate in various discussions, to introduce guests to college and Latvia and to attend the 2nd international scientific conference entitled “Health Care and Social Welfare – EDUCATION AND PRACTICE” organized by the college.
2nd international week of the P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia was opened with the address of the college director Ilga Eriņa and the good wishes from Ivars Pēkainis, senior expert for the Medical faculty study development at the University of Latvia. As the day went on, the partners presented their universities and representative organizations. In turn, the introduction to the college was led by international coordinator Aiga Grauduma.
For guest lecturers to be involved in the daily college life, they were given the opportunity to manage lectures for students in the first course of the college study program “Nursing”. The guests were mainly representatives of the administration from different institutions, which generated interesting discussions about each country's experience in organizing the study process and implementing mobility. The presentation by Kristīne Tihanova, head of international projects at “Turība” University (Latvia), on the experience of attracting and integrating foreign students in the study environment, was very binding. Anyone could ask questions of interest and share stories of their high-school success.
To become more familiar with the study process, a visit was organized to the National Agency for Social Inclusion in Jaundubulti and a visit to the Latvia's Science house of the University of Latvia. Latvia was introduced in tours organized along the Old Riga route: Rundāle palaces – Jelgava city – moorland of Ķemeri – Jūrmala city. Before that, foreign guests had learned the basics of Latvian.
On the closing day of the week foreign guests together with the staff of P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia participated in the 2nd international scientific conference entitled “Health Care and Social Welfare – EDUCATION AND PRACTICE”.
After the event, guests acknowledged the week as very positive, successful and rich in new impressions. New partnerships were concluded, agreements on further cooperation in the preparation and management of joint research projects were concluded, and it was decided to improve the quality of existing study programs.
The month of May is not only ivy flowering time, but also the time of inspiration for new ideas and partnerships. There is force in cooperation! Thank everyone for being present and getting involved!
